Centennial College, Ontario, Canada.

When Centennial College was founded as Ontario’s first public college in 1966, it focused on preparing students for burgeoning new careers in business, communications and social services. Rapidly expanding public services such as recreation and child care needed new kinds of practitioners, and the college emphasized careers that were geared to the local economy. By contrast, today’s Centennial College is an integral part of the global economy. With 7,000 international students enrolled at its Toronto campuses, Centennial has become a cosmopolitan learning destination that transcends borders and brings tangible benefits to all who learn here.

Learning should be visceral, imaginative, liberating and empowering. At Centennial, it is. Graduates are prepared to do meaningful work and lead meaningful lives. Students are given significant opportunities to engage, both locally and internationally. Volunteer experiences through our Global Citizenship and Equity Service Learning Experiences (GCELE) dispatch students to distant lands, including Peru, South Korea and Kenya, to perform service learning in rural and often remote communities. Our award-winning approach to teaching internationalization includes a mandatory course in all programs, as well as a portfolio requirement for graduation, internships, co-op work terms and on-reserve work within Canada. You can learn differently here.

Life at Centennial

Centennial College is recognized as one of the most culturally diverse post-secondary institutions in Canada, known for its exemplary teaching, innovative programming and extensive partnership building. Centennial offers more than 250 diploma, certificate and degree programs on a full- and part-time basis in business, media arts, community and consumer services, engineering technology, health care and transportation. These programs promote experiential learning with laboratory instruction, co-op education and industry placements. Centennial enrols 21,000 full-time students and 19,000 part-time learners annually.

Centennial College is located in Toronto, Canada’s largest city and the cultural epicentre of the country. There is no shortage of things to do and explore here, including restaurants that serve every cuisine from around the globe, as well as major sports, entertainment and cultural events throughout the year. Toronto has been called the most multicultural city in the world by the United Nations and the BBC. The Economist magazine named Toronto the best city in the world in which to live (EIU Index of Indexes, 2015). It doesn’t get much better than this!

The college opened its state-of-the-art Centennial Place student residence at Progress Campus in 2016. The facility, with 740 beds and multiple activity rooms on every level, provides residents with stylish surroundings and premium amenities, including Zipcar rentals right outside their door. Students can also make use of the accommodations database to find off-campus housing, if preferred. Frequent bus service to a nearby light-rail station, with connections to the Toronto subway system, makes it easy for residents to travel throughout the city. All five campuses have good transit links.

Centennial College has developed a broad and comprehensive array of campus services to support students. Our Centre for Students With Disabilities is a confidential service that provides counselling, support, advocacy and accommodations for students with documented disabilities, including learning impairments. Attaining student success is your first priority – and ours! Our student services include:

  1. Tutoring Services
  2. Counselling and Guidance
  3. Child Care Centre
  4. Health and Wellness
  5. Learning Centres
  6. Campus Libraries

Centennial’s Centre for Academic English provides free English tutoring and workshops to all Centennial students at our five campuses – a boon to international students who wish to brush up on their English skills. Our campus libraries feature group study rooms, a great accommodation for those who prefer to study in small groups. Centennial provides a welcoming environment for all, regardless of their religion, spiritual beliefs or creed, by offering prayer and meditation rooms on every campus.

Centennial College enjoys close ties with the University of Toronto Scarborough campus, including several programs that are delivered jointly with Canada’s leading university. In addition, Centennial students can access the world-class Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre, where athletes of all abilities can practice and play together. That’s in addition to Centennial’s own Athletic and Wellness Centre at Progress Campus, which provides opportunities for intramural sports participation, as well as individual training and conditioning.
