Canada Student Visa Process Step by Step Guide

How to get into a Canadian institution as an overseas student, step by step

  • Step 1: Make your Choices
  • Find suitable programs for yourself (be it Degree, Diploma, Certificate, Post Graduate Certificate, Advanced Diploma, MS, MBA etc.) and widen your horizons and open the portals of opportunities thereafter.

Choose your course (be it Hospitality, Management, Marketing and Finance, Law, Mass Com., B.Sc, Engineering, etc. any other vocational courses). We understand that every individual has varied interests and with thousands of options available it becomes a little difficult to select one, trust our experts to guide you through the entire process.

Select the institute, college or university of your choice. Be thorough while you are choosing your college and make sure to check all the parameters you are looking for in an institute are being met.

  • Step 2: Learn about the admissions requirements
  • University/ college requirements

Check whether you are meeting course or subject specific requirements such as subject, percentage, etc.

Also, it is very fundamental to meet the language specific requirements whether it is IELTS, PTE, TOFEL etc.)

  • Step 3: Money Matters!
  • Not all colleges or universities are the same price, and not all programs have the same costs. Tuition, living expenses, transportation charges, and the cost of books and supplies are all factors to consider. Look for scholarships and bursaries; the sooner you apply the better.

More information about expenses and financial aid can be found in our Cost of Studying in Canada.

  • Step 4: Eye the intakes!
  • There are distinct application deadlines for each university, and even varied application deadlines for different programs within an institution. As there are multiple intakes offering multiple institutional choices, or programs and courses it becomes really crucial that you watch the deadlines and what an intake has to offer.

  • Step 5: Apply for Admission
  • After finalizing the suitable colleges apply for admission. It is important to note that the application charges for college or university admission cannot be refunded. The charges may vary from 100 CAD to 300 CAD. Once you apply you will get a Letter of Acceptance within 15 to 20 days (if your application has been accepted by the college or university.)

  • Step 6: Tuition fee payments
  • Once you receive you receive your Letter of Acceptance it must explain the last date of Payment and Tuition Fee amount or any other specific requirements. So, please make them payment to secure your seat in the college or university. If you fail to do so seats maybe allotted to different students. Post payment of 1 year tuition fee you will receive Certificate of Enrollment.

  • Step 7: Apply for your Study Permit.
  • Once you receive Certificate of Enrollment now start preparing your documents for study permit or Canada Student Visa. Your Documents are important so be careful as a single mistake on your part may lead to rejection.
