Following Canadian visa delays, the Indian Embassy gives instructions for students.

Guidelines have been released by the Indian embassy for students who are about to begin their studies at Canadian universities. Due to lengthy visa and student permit processing times, many Indian students are currently unable to enroll in their academic courses in Canada. Authorities have been encouraged to check into the situation by the Indian High Commission in Ottawa.

Representatives from Ottawa and the Canadian consulates in Toronto and Vancouver have been in touch with Canadian universities and academic institutions about the issue.

The recommendation emphasized these issues and the fact that Indian students had already paid tuition to Canadian universities in order to implore the Canadian authorities to expedite the processing of visa applications for Indian students.

It was mentioned that Canada had become a popular choice for Indian students seeking post-secondary education. The processing of visas is, however, a sovereign competence of the Canadian government, the high commission stated.

How students can find help under such circumstances?

  1. Universities have said that they are in contact with incoming foreign students, including those from India, and are giving them timely, useful information about all matters relating to the application procedure for study permits.
  2. They already have backup plans in place to help incoming students who don't get their study permits in time to come on campus in September when classes start.
  3. For students who are unable to arrive in Canada at the start of the term because they have not yet gotten a visa, some institutions will offer a remote option, such as the opportunity to begin the session online. To learn which courses offer a remote option and to discuss their possibilities in the event that some do, students can get in touch with the university or institutions.
  4. The university/institution is in contact with students who desire to postpone their admission to discuss their choices, which include postponing the admission offer to a future term or taking extraordinary circumstances into account on a case-by-case basis.
  5. Affected students are urged to use the IRCC internet form for study permit applications that have been filed and are complete but have waited longer than the current Student Direct Stream (SDS) scheme processing time to send a request for information and urgent processing.
  6. Currently, there are more than 230,000 Indian students studying in post-secondary schools in Canada.
